Candidate Café Recap: Engaging Asheville's Future

In the heart of Downtown Asheville, more than 200 enthusiastic locals gathered at Citizen Vinyl for the inaugural Candidate Café.

This vibrant event, hosted by the Asheville Downtown Association and sponsored by Dewey Property Advisors, provided an invaluable opportunity for residents to meet and engage with six City Council hopefuls vying for three seats in the upcoming general election.

The evening was expertly moderated by Matt Peiken, a familiar voice from The Overlook podcast and a lifelong journalist. His energetic style set the tone for the evening, encouraging lively and meaningful interactions between the candidates and the attendees.

As soon as the doors opened, the venue buzzed with conversation. Citizens, eager to connect with local candidates, filled the trendy record-pressing shop, bringing with them a palpable sense of civic excitement. The format for Candidate Café was straightforward yet highly effective. Each candidate had the chance to articulate their platform, focusing on downtown revitalization and economic growth for Asheville's future.

However, the true magic of the evening lay in the interactions that followed these presentations. The open forum allowed voters to engage directly with the candidates, moving beyond prepared statements to understand the individuals behind the policies. As candidates mingled with the crowd, Matt Peiken conducted interviews for his live podcast, delving deeper into each candidate's vision and plans for the city. These conversations provided a more personal glimpse into the candidates' motivations and their connection to the community they aspire to serve.

Events like Candidate Café highlight the vibrant culture of Downtown Asheville and the informed choices made by its residents. The success of this event underscores the community's commitment to active civic engagement and thoughtful dialogue.

Looking ahead, we are excited to announce that we will be hosting a more formal candidate forum this fall, ahead of the general election. This event will provide another platform for in-depth discussion and will further ensure that Asheville's voters are well-informed and ready to make their voices heard.

Stay engaged, stay informed, and let's shape the future of Asheville together.
